Ginger is Beautiful
Maybe people look different but we are in many ways similar. We are all humans. Indeed, people say it is good to be different from others because you’re unique, but in reality when you are different you are discriminated against and isolated from society. That’s how stereotypes are born and people hate other people.

Ginger hair represents an isolated part of the population who are sometimes discriminated against by others because of their special hair colour. In fact, such discrimination was born during Classical Times. It is an ancestral prejudice which is now so well anchored in the collective consciousness that one no longer realizes that it is an invention. Jokes and remarks about redheads are very popular, heard from all, read in books or seen on television and leads to a certain habit. That’s why people who are subject of this teasing have the tendency to anticipate and behave like a victim to protect themselves.
Such discrimination has evolved since a different period of time. It began during Classical times. In fact, the Egyptians considered them as the descendants of the evil brother of Osiris, their god. Later, in the middle ages, ginger hair was the color of the temptation and treason, they were thought to represent witches and prostitutes. That’s why nearly 20,000 red heads were burned during this period. After this event, Saint Louis, who was a king, decided that the prostitutes can sell their bodies provided that they differ from honest women. Finally, they had to become red heads to be allowed to practice their profession. Nowadays, people consider that ginger hairs haven’t any soul and that they are the children of Satan, the devil. Sometimes in certain schools, we can see students bullying ginger haired kids and isolating them from the others just because they don’t like their hair and they want to laugh. But they do not realize that they are hurting people who are human beings like them.
During all periods, this violence against ginger hairs has resulted in the death of many people. With all of these prejudices, we can now talk of bullying and maybe racism. All people are concerned because this phenomenon affects children just as much as it affects adults. These stereotypes are known to all people and they are accepted by society because no one is brave enough to take a stand against them. In fact, it’s difficult to act alone against all, and no one wants to take the risk to oppose society out of fear of being the new target. We must all be proud of our differences and we all have to accept each other because humans should remain solitary and not enemies. Lea M.
